off day, still standing

so today was just… off.

i can feel it in my body, that low hum of not-quite-right.

and if i’m being honest with myself it’s probably the news from yesterday still parked in my chest like a stone i haven’t figured out where to set down yet. heavy shit landed. i’m not gonna get into the whole of it right now, but it’s the kind of thing that a year ago would’ve folded me clean in half.

and here’s the part i keep turning over — it didn’t.

i hit a wall mid-stream. couldn’t push through it, and i didn’t try to force it either, which is honestly maybe the bigger flex. i just stopped. shut the stream down. took an hour, maybe more. ate something real. put on some YouTube, caught up on some Hasan, let my brain go soft for a bit. and instead of spiraling about the break i just… let it be a break. no guilt tax. no “you’re wasting the day” narrator running in the back.

now i’ve got a walk in me, coffee brewing back at the apartment, a shake with my name on it when i get back. then i’m gonna fire the stream back up, put some tunes on, and slide back into my studying like the day didn’t just try me.

and the thing i’m actually fucking proud of: i did my whole workout routine today. and then some. on an off day. on a day where the easy move was to write the whole thing off and lay in the dark with the blinds down. i planted my feet instead.

that’s the recovery model working, i think. not the shiny version where you feel great and everything’s easy — the real one, where the world leans on you and you lean back. where “off” doesn’t get to mean “done.” a year ago off meant the fetal position and the shower floor. today off means i took a breather, took a walk, and i’m about to get back to it.

sooo yeah, still more work to do. always is. doesn’t scare me much anymore.

the coffee’s probably ready.
