molting season (or: i was planning to move into a house i already lived in)

so. it’s been a few days.

the kind where the sun goes up and down and up again and you can’t fully account for where any of it went.

most of it went into guerz.lol.

i stayed up all night tearing the home page apart. like, all night all night.

and i’m not even mad about it.

the bold thing

i gave the landing page a real fucking revamp. not a tweak. not “moved a margin three pixels and called it a day.” a. fucking. REVAMP!

the banners are gone. every single one. home, about, playbooks, the freeCodeCamp build archive, sandbox. pulled all of them.

i’m calling it molting season.

shed the old skin. see what’s underneath.

the art’s not dead, btw. it’s sitting in a folder, squished down from 10.3 MB to 626 KB, waiting for whenever i decide it gets to come back. but for now the pages get to just… be the words.

and the words are three big boxes now. peach, lavender, peach. three titles that read more like poems than headers.

guerz.lol home page on a phone: the {Guerz} title card, the {g} hex avatar, and the first peach box titled my timber soul, creaks. a snap; abhor. felled.

“my timber soul,

creaks. a snap;

abhor. felled.

befallen the seed.

resurgences;

alas, tenacity.

molt; phoenix down.

rise up. begin anew.“

that’s the whole arc of the last couple months. in three boxes.

right in the middle there’s a burnt orange bar that says Full Sail University — Day One. because it was. September 28th. web development, bachelor of science. twenty-seven months straight, all online, accelerated pace.

i picked that orange myself. sorta. it’s the Full Sail University orange, aptly. it also matches my feelings exactly.

under the hood it’s the boring stuff that matters. no inline css. no style blocks shoved into the html. one stylesheet, comments on everything. Gee audited my headings, so the poem lines aren’t pretending to be headings anymore. it looks exactly the same. it’s just more honest underneath.

yeah. metaphor noted.

the plot twist nobody asked for

i’ve had this whole Cloudflare plan going. three versions of it, because of course there were three. every single one was built around “move guerz.lol off GitHub Pages and onto Cloudflare.”

turns out it already was.

since August.

“i was planning to move into a house i already lived in.“

Plexi and i sat down with the dashboards and smashed all three into one plan. two tracks: the platform stuff, and the getting-found-on-the-internet stuff. and one rule taped to the top: no v4. ship it, then start.

step zero is literally just writing down how my own site works. no touching dns. no breaking shit. look and take notes.

i can do that.

probably.

the rest of the rollercoaster

my Obsidian vault has been eaten alive by my adhd. Plexi and i spitballed a reorg, and it gets its own little session, because if i try to do it alongside everything else i’ll end up with a folder called “misc final FINAL v2.”

spent a good chunk of today just researching. job hunting, freelancing, learning resources, ai docs. tabs on tabs on tabs.

walked two boxes of vinyl to the post office for my best friend, who bought them off me. best kind of sale there is.

meanwhile my Discogs payouts are sitting in paypal purgatory while i wait a couple weeks on my id. love that for me.

and some other stuff i’m not ready to put on the internet yet.

maybe later.

the lane i’m protecting

through all of it, the actual priority hasn’t moved.

the fCC Responsive Web Design v9 certification. my golden prize.

i fell off fCC for almost a month. not on purpose. life just kept happening at me. on the 30th i picked it back up.

week 19, day 2. that’s where the counter’s at.

a peach box titled molt; phoenix down. rise up. begin anew. linking my Full Sail Playbook and freeCodeCamp Playbook, noting week 19 day 2, and ending with a linear note thanking everyone who stuck with me.

the Cloudflare stuff gets one lab night a week. that’s it. it doesn’t get to eat the study time.

the next colors workshop is sitting there waiting for me. it can wait a little longer.

not too long though.

i’m tired. like, bone tired.

but the site looks like mine now.

and i’m still here.

current mood: 🫠 ecstatic; terrified
